The global pandemic continues to affect us all, in many different ways. So, it’s important that we remain in a positive mindset, remain in control and remain focused… not only for ourselves but for our teams.
We need to ensure we are making logical decisions for our businesses right now. We need to make sure our businesses can get through this period unscathed.
You need to make sure everyone in your business is helping you move forward and get your business through this period.
Everyone in your business must be making a positive contribution and continue to rise to the challenge. And you need to be brutally honest about the contribution they’re making.
What they do each day, each hour and each minute adds productivity and value to your business and drives it forward – or it doesn’t. You must operate from a position of truth, not fear.
That means recognising what’s in front of you and making your decisions accordingly. There’s no sugar-coating it. Don’t give it another few weeks to see what happens. Act now and act smart.
It is not just about your team – you must be truthful about every aspect of your business including the following four key components:
1. The business owners and management team.
Do you have the right people in the right positions, showing true leadership to your team?
2. Your team.
Is everybody aware of and aligned with the bigger picture?
3. Your supply chain.
You simply can’t be an A-grade business without A-grade suppliers. Hold them to account. You will be the reason they become benchmark businesses too.
4. Your clients.
You will not be productive at the highest level if you are not serving the right people.
OWNERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
It’s up to you, the business owners, and your management team to lead the business.
Everybody has to buy in to what you’re building. And this only happens if the people at the top have already done so.
How effective are you going to be as a leader if you explain the importance of productivity to your team and then go for a three-hour lunch? The answer is, not very.
How effective is it going to be if you tell your team to stay calm and focused, but you aren’t yourself?
If you’re not leading by example, nobody is following. You don’t have to do everything yourself, but you do need to set the example for everybody in your business to follow.
You need to see the choke point before it happens, not the day before but weeks or months before. It’s your responsibility to solve the problem, to do the things you are good at and let others do the things they are good at.
People won’t follow you just because you’re the boss. They will follow you because they respect you, they can see your determination and desire, and they want the business to do well and more importantly, survive this crisis.
It’s about achieving a common goal. It’s about accountability. It’s about focusing on doing the little things well. And a focus on the things you can control rather than what you can’t.
Keep building upon your strengths, and keep addressing your weaknesses. Make sure you are achieving results every single day in accordance with your plan.
Even though times are tough right now, you need to remain calm and keep being proactive in line with your plan. You need to keep your finger on the pulse so you can react quickly to new challenges and opportunities. But be careful not to throw all your hard work out the window, because that’s when you will fail. Build upon the solid foundations you have already built.
Being a leader right now means getting involved and setting a good example. Good leadership and resilience are what will get your business through this!
Speaking of resilience, this THURSDAY we have a live webinar open to everybody in our community – Question Time with the Resilience Builders.
For many weeks, many of the business owners in our community have attended their training - and their amazing feedback and results are proof of the positive effect their sessions have had had on our mindset and resilience.
So we’re opening this up to our entire community this Thursday. We invite everyone to attend – this hour-long session will do wonders for helping to maintain a positive frame of mind.
