From Business Operator to Business Owner
In the very beginning Tom shared that he believed that winning business was always based on price, but during his Board of Directors 12 program he learnt that adding value would win more deals.
Tom openly admits that in the beginning he was running the business 'by the seat of his pants', he didn't even use a diary. Instead he was relying on his memory and believing he was the only person capable of dealing with the sales enquiries, invoicing and debt collection, and working 14 hours a day. With no payment terms or a system to invoice or collect overdue accounts, Tom also had the additional headache of no cashflow.
Second Generation Business Owner
Harley & Sons Roofing (formerly Aussie Plumbing & Gutters) is a 40 year + business led by Tom Harley's father Bruce. About 5 years ago his 4 sons began planning how to take the business nationwide.
There are now two offices in Melbourne with approximately 30 employees spread across both entities, Tom Harley heads up the largest of the two entities and decided to reach out to Business Benchmark Group joining our Board of Directors 12 program in January 2016. Tom and his team were finding it difficult to source good leads from just one avenue of advertising and he wasn't sure what kind of help he needed but he quickly realised that he was (and still is) an excellent plumber but that he had no idea how to run a business.
Results and Graduation
Since becoming a client of Business Benchmark Group, revenue has grown by 100% in 15 months, an in depth sales process is now in place that all of his team understand and the balance in the bank has grown by over 400%.
With our help, Tom now realises that he can't do everything and that by concentrating on the highest hourly rate activities such as sales and leaving his team to manage operations, he will quickly realise his business goals.
Having now mastered the basics, in early 2017, just 12 months into his coaching program, Tom graduated to one-on-one private mentoring which will enable him to work through the next level of growth and success in the business.
