Needed alignment for next level of growth
To involved 'in' the business
Not enough time
Our new mantra is "do one thing and do it well". We achieved a double digit increase in profit again, that's 2 years in a row.
Emma and Ben Stallworthy are the first to admit that in the beginning they were spreading themselves too thin. A lack of confidence, an inability to allow our team members to step up and be a part of the business decision-making and growth was holding us back. Ultimately they were still very much in the day-to-day running of the business, which didn’t leave much time for anything else. They were also arguing and butting heads a lot as a couple, this happens with husband and wife teams. Both Emma and Ben are very competitive which, when directed appropriately, works really well for them and pushes them to achieve great things together, but when directed at each other, was raising alarm bells.
Since beginning their coaching in January 2013, Ben and Emma have redefined their own responsibilities so that they are no longer stepping on each other’s toes. This has also eliminated the confusion the team had with whom to report to or whom to contact. They also redefined their Club Managers’ roles and provided them with more authority for decision-making, allowing them to be the true leader of their teams. Emma says “Stefan has turned us into coaches for our team. Our entire team is now on the same page, everyone knows where we are going, and is consistently stepping up and excelling in their roles”.
Coaching has made Emma and Ben more accountable through asking the ‘hard questions’, regular catch ups, focus sheets and KPI reports. They now have greater visibility over the performance of their business from the KPIs and finances, something they very much lacked. Emma and Ben definitely feel they have made significant progress with their team and streamlining their processes. They have achieved double digit increase in profit again, that's 2 years in a row. They now work together better than they ever did, which naturally helps their home life. As a husband and wife team they now work much better together, which is the most significant difference for them.
